Earl Horter

Earl Horter was a painter and printmaker, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  As an artist he was a self-taught and his work falls in the real of modernism and realism.  He learned etching when he moved to New York in 1903 to take an advertising job.  He moved back to Philadelphia in 1917.  He collected prints and drawings, and he was a man of modest means.  He had to start selling work from his collection in the 1930’s to put food on the table.  His work is in many museums around the world.
