George Overbury (Pop) Hart

(1868-1933)

George Hart and "Pop" Hart was born in Cairo, Illinois on May 10, 1868.  His father managed a printing roller factory, where he worked as a teen. But Hart liked to draw more than work and was ultimately let go after his lack attention led to one of the glue vats exploding. His furious father put him on the next train to New York City. Hart traveled extensively throughout his life, visiting and working in places such as London, Paris, Chicago, San Francisco, Cuba, Mexico, Tahiti. Throughout his life, Hart drew, painted and produced prints - etchings and lithographs. When he wasn't making fine art pieces, he was making newspaper illustrations, and painting signs and film sets.
