John W. McClellan

1908-1986

John Ward McClellan was an American artist, mathematician and entomologist, born in England. His family returned to the United States when he was a teen. McClellan originally sought to be a doctor and took up study at Yale University, but later transfer to the School of the Boston Museum and then the Academie Julien in Paris. He settled in Woodstock, New York, in the late 1930s. 

McClellan work was included in the 1940 contemporary exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York. It can also be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Art Museum, NY; Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC; British Museum, London; Grinnell College Museum of Art, IA; Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, NY and others.
