Mabel Dwight

1875-1955

Printmaker, painter born on January 31, 1875 in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved with her family to New Orleans and finally San Francisco.  She studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute (San Francisco Art Institute) under Arthur Mathews.  She became the director of the Sketch Club an artist’s association for women.  After extensive traveling she moved to New York.  At the recommendation of Carl Zigrosser she traveled to Paris and studied lithography at Atelier Duchatel in Paris.  She captured in her images the lives of ordinary people in a remarkable way.  She exhibited her work throughout her career and her prints and paintings are in many museum collections.
