Michael W. Arike

b. 1933

Michael Arike was born in Oklahoma City, OK.  She graduated from Oklahoma State University where she studied Printmaking with Doel Reed.  Later she attended the Art Institute of Chicago and The New School of Social Research, NY, studying with John Ross.  

Arike is a member of Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA) and has served on the Council and as Vice President; The Boston Printmakers Association; and The Audubon Artists Inc.  She has received awards from The National Academy, SAGA, gold and silver medals from Audubon Artists, purchase awards from Center for Contemporary Graphics Mini-Print Exhibition, and prizes from the Small Print Exhibitions in the Creede, CO. She was commissioned to do prints for the Smithsonian’s Small Treasures Series, for the Nelson-Atkins Museum Print Club, and for the Print Club of Albany.

Her work is in the collections of the British Museum, London;The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; New York Public Library, NY;  Portland Museum, Portland, OR; Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City, MO;  Mississippi Museum of Art, Jackson, MS, among others.
