Nat Lowell was a printmaker and teacher best known for his detailed etchings of New York City. Born in Riga, Latvia, Lowell's family immigrated to the United States when he was young, and settled in New York City. He received his formal art education from the Art Students' League, where he learned from the likes of Carroll Beckwith and Siddons Mowbray. Some of his etchings were published by the Associated American Artists.
