Alexander Mikhailovich

Russian born Alexander Mikhailovich made his first prints on glass plates. Studies optics and fine mechanics before fulfilling military service in Russian Army. He is assigned staff photographer for the Army's internal newspaper. Awarded diploma for photography from "Lenphoto 2". During the 1950's Mikhailovich works as an 'expedition staff photographer' to record the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. In the late 1960's he is employed at the Hermitage Museum to document/photograph the art. After immigrating to the United States, in 1978, Mikhailovich works at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as Staff Photographer. During the 1980's he starts a project to document New York City. Most of the images have been photographed with either a 6 x 7 cm or 4 x 5" format camera. These photographs are printed by serigraph and platinum-palladium processes. He work is in the Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
