Frederic Taubes

1900-1981

Frederic Taubes was a Polish-born painter and printmaker. His family moved to Vienna at the outbreak of World War I, where he studied at the Vienna Academy of Art, and later at the Academy in Munich in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in the 1930s, where he settled in New York. His artwork won critical acclaim and he was represented in a number of solo exhibitions at museums and galleries alike. He also wrote more than forty art books, some of which were best sellers.
