Lilo Raymond

1922-2009

Lilo Raymond was a German-born photographer who made a name for herself in United States. She fled her birth country at the age of sixteen to escape the Nazi regime, eventually settling in Manhattan. She quickly took to the Bohemian art scene in Greenwich Village. Raymond’s photography is notable for taking ordinary, everyday objects and depicting them in a way that removes their usual utility. She favored simplicity and capturing the beauty therein.
