Eduard Hildebrandt

1818-1868

Eduard Hildebrandt (1818-1868) was a German-born artist. He studied under Wilhelm Krause and later in Paris. In 1843 he won a silver medal at the Paris Salon. In the early 1860's he travelled the world, visiting the Middle East, India, Singapore, Siam, Macao, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan and the United States. He created watercolors along the way, many of which were translated into chromolithographs and published around 1864 by R. Wagner in Berlin. The original watercolors were exhibited in London in 1866 and at an exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1868.
