Henry Farrer

1843-1903

Henry Farrer was an English-born American artist, best known for his watercolors and etchings. He is the younger brother of Thomas Charles Farrer, who was one of the founding members of The Association for the Advancement of Truth in Art.

Farrer was born in London and immigrated to the United States in 1863, where he co-founded the American Watercolor Society in New York City in 1866. A decade later, in 1877, he would be one of the founding members of the New York Etching Club, and would serve as president in 1881.

Farrer is well regarded for his watercolor landscapes and etchings of New York City.
