William Henry Smyth

1788-1865

William H. Smyth rose through the ranks of the Royal Navy, retiring as an admiral in 1863.He was a noted hydrographer, astronomer as well as Vice President of the Royal Society. He is also a direct descendent of John Smith of Jamestown, Virginia fame.
