Arthur W. Heintzelman

painter, printmaker, curator - was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Providence, Rhode Island.  He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, before moving to Paris, then Switzerland, returning to the United States in 1934.  In 1941 he became Keeper of Prints at the Boston Public Library a position he held until his retirement in 1960.  He is highly acclaimed for his portraits and was widely collected during his lifetime.  His work is in numerous international collections.
