Antoine Augustin Calmet

1672-1757

Antoine Augustin Calmet, O.S.B. (26 February 1672 – 25 October 1757), a French Benedictine monk, He was a pious monk as well as a learned man, and one of the most distinguished members of the Congregation of St. Vanne. In 1720 he authored “Dictionnaire historique, critique, chronologique, geographique et litteral de la Bible” (Paris, 1720, two vols. folio). Which was translated into English and published into three illustrated volumes by Rev. Samuel D'Oyley and Rev. John Colson (1732).
