Charles B. Gifford

1830-?

California artist. Gifford was thirty when he began drawing views of California towns with the first being in 1860 of his home town of Mission Dolores. His finest and most ambitious view was a sweeping five section panorama of San Francisco as seen from Russian Hill in 1862. All told, he produced a total of 15 town views, 13 of California interest and two of Washington.
