| Will Barnet was born in Beverly , Massachusetts , in 1911, and his art career spans over eight decades. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston with Philip Leslie Hale in 1927 and the Art Students League in New York in 1930 where he developed an interest in printmaking. His association with the Art Students League is one of the longest in the league's history, remaining there as a teacher until 1980. Barnet also taught at the New School for Social Research, N. Y., New Jersey State Teachers College , and Cooper Union, N. Y. He was involved with the Graphic Art Division of the WPA (Works Progress Administration).
Throughout his career, Barnet has been a noted artist in both printing and printmaker. He has worked in many mediums, including woodcut, etching, lithograph, and serigraphy or silk screen. He is a master printer - he printed lithographs for the Mexican artists, Rivera and Orozco. Barnet continues to be one of the great promoters of printmaking as an art form.
Will Barnet's work can be found in many public collections including the Guggenheim Museum , N. Y., the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N. Y., the Philadelphia Museum , and the Whitney Museum , N. Y.
