Art Werger (b. 1955)

Art Werger was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, on December 4, 1955. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in printmaking in 1978 and his MFA from the University of Wisconsin in 1982. He was Chairman, Fine Arts Division and Professor of Art at Wesleyan College, Macon, Georgia from 1982-2000. He is currently Director of Foundations, Professor of Printmaking, at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.

Werger is a master printmaker working in etching, mezzotint and with some of his images printed in multi-plate color. His compositions are complex and full of intricate detail that create a dream like detachment from the image. His prints really must be seen first hand to appreciate the feelings and emotions that his images evoke. Viewing the images on line, they often loose this important quality.

His work has been collected by numerous museums and he has received many grants throughout his career. He is a member of the American Print Alliance, Southern Graphics Council, MidAmerica Print Council, College Art Association, Florida Printmakers, Los Angeles Printmaking Society, Middle Georgia Art Association, Vermont Art Association and Boston Printmakers.
