DESCRIPTION: A well-engraved map that covers an area from Entrance of the Delaware Bay northward to the upper reaches of the St. Laurence River in Quebec. Major Holland was a Dutch military engineer in the Royal American Regiment of the British army. He was appointed by the King in 1764 as the first Surveyor General for the northern region. Governor Thomas Pownall, a Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey and Governor of Massachusetts, was one of America's important early cartographers as well. An important colonial-era map.
