  • ARTIST: Adrien Hubert Brue

  • MEDIUM: Engraving,

    DATE: 1814

  • EDITION SIZE: Four sheets, Each sheet measures 26 1/2 x 38 3/4"

  • DESCRIPTION: A highly detailed large scale map that was first issued in Brue's "Grand Atlas Universel,..." Adrien Hubert Brue was a prolific French cartographer at the turn of the 19th century. In addition to this map of Asia, he created similar maps for Africa, the Americas, and Europe. The map is divided into four parts on separate sheets; the sheets’ margins were meant to be cut off and the pieces joined together to form one enormous wall map. The map’s features are extremely detailed and carefully drawn, including texturing in mountains and bodies of water; labels for political divisions, settlements, ports, and topographical features; hundreds of islands; and regions labeled as parts of different empires. A very fine example of this map.
