  • DESCRIPTION: Frederick the Great, also known as Frederick II (1712-1786) was the king of Prussia. He is most known for having taken Silesia during the Silesian Wars and Polish territories during the First Partition of Poland. Frederick the Great hadn't always been interested in warfare however. In 1730 he and his good friend Hans Hermann von Katte, a lieutenant in the Prussian Army, tried to flee to Britain but were captured and Katte beheaded for desertion and attempted treason. Frederick was forced by his father to watch the execution and suffered great trauma from the experience.
