  • DESCRIPTION: E. Poppig nach d. Nature 1827. I.A. Sedlayr, Munchen, Lithgr. 1834. A view of the Quillota valley located in the Valparaiso region of Chile. Eduard Friedrich Poeppig (1798-1868) was a German zoologist and explorer. Between 1826 and 1832 he visited Chile, Peru and Brazil making observations and producing a series of drawings, watercolors of the areas he visited. He described over 4,000 plant species, investigated Incan ruins and travelled the entire length of the Amazon River. Upon his return to Germany in 1832, he wrote of his travels producing "Reise in Chile, Peru und auf dem Amazonenstrome während der Jahre...". A collection of sixteen lithographs based on his drawings and watercolors. The work is quite beautiful as well as very scarce.
