DESCRIPTION: An important map that first appeared in 1570 in Ortelius' "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum." It is the first map that depicted the relationship between Asia, Japan and Northwest America. Japan is well depicted. This is also among the first maps to name California "C. Califormio" on the Baja peninsula.
ADDITIONAL INFO: This impression printed c. 1571 with Dutch text and "47" on verso.
CONDITION: Good condition save for slight damp staining in upper margin.
