  • DESCRIPTION: The painting, Combination Concrete #2, is a reinterpretation of his 1922 painting Landscape. Davis references the early painting in the shapes and composition of the work as well as contextual hints in the text he layers. In the lower left corner, the number β€œ22” is overlapped vertically, referring to the year of Landscape, and he juxtaposes this with the word β€œnew” adjacent to the numbers. According to the artist, the title refers to an experimental form of music in which recorded sounds were cut, spliced, and recombined to create a composition.
