One of the most beautiful celestial charts from the golden age of Dutch cartography. Constellations are shown according to Christian symbolism. The view of the constellations is based on the work of the early seventeenth-century astronomer, Julius Schiller, who sought to replace the traditional pagan symbols with ones derived from Judeo-Christian sources. This chart appeared in "Atlas Coelestis seu Harmonia Macrocosmica," one of the finest seventeenth-century Dutch celestial atlases produced. Maps
