    DATE: 1663

  • EDITION SIZE: Image size 13 1/2 x 17 1/4" (34 x 47.5 cm) plus margins.

  • DESCRIPTION: A fine map of Asia and East Indies. This map follows the cartography of Johan Goddard showing a great expanse of water between a truncated Asia and North America, and a very elongated Korean peninsula. Many place names graphically depicting the extent of European knowledge throughout Asia and particularly in the Philippines and East Indies. The Great Wall is depicted. The coastline of Java that is shown suggests that it is quite a bit larger than it is, and New Guinea and the Moluccas are shown as a confused group of islands. Engraved by Johan Goddard. Appeared in Heylyn's “Cosmographie”.
