  • DESCRIPTION: Mon. Martinet, 172, r. Rivoli et 41, r. Vivienne. Lith. Destouches, Paris. From "Modes Pour Rire." These two satirical fashion lithographs poke fun at the wide skirts of the day. In the first, the young woman asks her friend, Justine, if the dress will widen her figure enough, for she is afraid of looking flat and ridiculous. In the second, she's donned her skirt over her shoulders instead of her hips to be as well-shaped as possible.
