  • DESCRIPTION: This English satirical print shows the Grim Reaper taking away a soul, while the occupant of a balloon in the background yells "Stop thief!" The ballooning craze began in 1783 after the Montgolfier brothers' made the first successful manned flight. Unfortunately the craze led to any number of catastrophic accidents and took a toll on the gentry class, who could afford to participating the expensive sport.
