DESCRIPTION: A fine Mariners map of the world. Magini follows Gerard Mercator's highly important large scale world map of 1569. The map shows a fanciful addition of a mountain range in the Southern Continent and a northwest passage ant the other pole. No Great Lakes are shown and California is not yet an Island. Interesting early projections of both North and South America, with Quivera and the Straits of Anian named, along with Florida and Norobega. Several mythical Islands, including Frieslandt and Irlant are shown. This map appeared in Magini's "Geographiae Universae”.

CONDITION: Good condition save for small brown stain in upper left. B/W
