  • DESCRIPTION: The first map to correctly show Korea as a peninsula. This is the rare Covens and Mortier reissue of Blaeu's important map of Japan and Korea. This map is based on the work of an Italian Jesuit, Martino Martini. It first appeared in 1655 in Blaeu's "Atlas Sinensis," the first European atlas of China. The plate was obtained and reissued by several cartographers with this issue being the last.
