In 1863, West Virginia was admitted to the Union as a new separate state. Retains original embossed covers. On the inside front cover is an applied label advertising Colton's other offerings. Map is surrounded by a scrollwork border consisting of various flowers and vines and with a bird in each corner. Bound into original embossed hard covers gilt title, "Colton's map of Virginia."
