Just mounting! & then funk'd & frighten'd out of all his hopes." <br><br> Michael Angelo Taylor had aligned himself just so to become the Speaker of the House of Commons when the Whig party dissolved Parliament. Unfortunately for him, the plans fell through and any hope of acquiring the seat disappeared. <br><br> In this engraving Taylor is being assailed by hisses from the two opposing parties as he approaches the Speaker's seat. This is a visual display of his disappointment of having lost his chance.
