  • DESCRIPTION: Two volumes in contemporary red leather with gold stamping title and label on spine. Quarto size containing one map and 199 steel engravings plus two title pages. <BR><BR> American Scenery was published by George Virtue in London in 30 monthly installments from 1837 to 1839. Bound editions of the work were published from 1840 onward. <BR><BR> Henry. Bartlett (1809-1854). British born Bartlett first visited the United States in 1835. He travelled extensively throughout the North East, recording the scenery in wash drawings. These volumes were a huge success and they contain some of the most charming views of early American scenery ever published.

  • CONDITION: Good condition some wear mostly on the spine and some seperation on the leather. Minor foxing on the plates Gilded edges on the pages overall a nice set.
