  • DESCRIPTION: "Fairmount Park, Philadelphia". Copyrighted 1874, by the Centennial Board of Finance. The Centennial International Exhibition of 1876, the first official World's Fair in the United States, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Art Gallery was designed in the beaux-arts style by Herman J. Schwarzmann. Now known as "Memorial Hall", the building still stands and has housed - over the years - a school of industrial art, a gymnasium, swimming pool, police station, and its current occupant - a children's museum.
