  • DESCRIPTION: The eastern most sheet of the three sheet chart of Long Island Sound. This chart is amazingly precise, noting hundreds of soundings, detailed coastline, hydrography, topography, roads, towns, anchorages, channels etc. In the lower right is a profile view, “View on rounding Montauk Point with the Light bearing W. by S..” Shows an area from Amagansett (LI) and Niantic eastward to the entrance of the Narragansett Bay. Includes Block Island. Working sea charts are inherently scarce due to the nature of their use aboard ships. Although likely common when first made, the vast majority of them were either destroyed by use or destroyed intentionally when new updated versions were obtained.
