  • DESCRIPTION: A fine large-scale map of North America, one of the best French maps produced prior to the French & Indian War. "To illustrate the cartography of the second half of the eighteenth century, a d'Anville map is essential. He dominated not only the French but all contemporary geographers. He was foremost to leave blank spaces in his maps where knowledge was insufficient… His representation of the Great Lakes is superior to that of his contemporary, John Mitchell…." R. V. Tooley. The map is engraved by Guillame Delahaye. The decorative cartouche was drawn by Graevlot and engraved by Major.
