This plate appeared in "Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux de Paradis et des Rolliers, Suivie de Celle des Toucans et des Barbus" Published in Paris by Francois Levillant. The artist of this work, Jacques Barraband, was one of the premier zoological and botanical illustrators working during the early 19th century. The printer, Francois Langlois was also one of the finest of the day. He was one of a select few who could print a la poupee, a process using different colored inks to selectively ink a printing plate. The print was then finished with hand coloring. It is a tedious and time-consuming process but the results were well worth the effort.
