The artist of this work, Jacques Barraband, was one of the premier zoological and botanical illustrators working during the early 19th century. Printed by Rousset - one of a select few who could print a la poupee, a process using different colored inks to selectively ink a printing plate. The print was then finished with hand coloring. It is a tedious and time-consuming process but the results were well worth the effort.
