A graduate of Princeton, Madison went on to serve in the Continental Congress and the Virginia assembly. His contributions to the U.S. Constitution played a major role in getting the document ratified and as a result gained him the title "Father of the Constitution," a title he contested. He refused to take credit for something so many people, including Alexander Hamilton, had helped to create. Madison would go on to help create the Bill of Rights and other important laws and regulations for which the country would follow.

About the publisher: Henry Bryan Hall (1808 - 1884) moved to New York in 1850, where he founded the firm H. B. Hall and Sons. He created works featuring important American figures, especially from the colonial and Revolutionary periods. Four of his children became accomplished engravers themselves.
