Lithographed depiction of the land and harbor area of Kronshtadt, which forms part of city of St. Petersburg, Russia, and has historically been used as a Russian military base. Kronshtadt is located on Kotlin Island in the Baltic Sea, giving it a strategic location for the defense of St. Petersburg and as a major seaport. This image shows the island’s military forts, which are labeled in the bottom margin. It also depicts the island’s rural areas and fortified urban center, and shows ships in the harbor. The main city area of St. Petersburg is visible in the distance, with ships crossing the sea between the two ports.
