Early 18th century map of India and part of Southeast Asia from modern-day Bangladesh south to Sumatra, surrounding the Bay of Bengal. The coast of India is particularly detailed with many ports, mountains, and nearby islands. The inland areas are filled with rivers, mountain ranges, and labels for towns, regions, and travel routes.

This map is from Nicolas de Fer’s ‘Atlas Curieux ou de Monde.’ De Fer was an official geographer for the kings of Spain and France, and one of the most prolific map publishers of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Many of his maps were artistic and highly decorative, rather than strictly geographically accurate.
