This lithograph was published soon after the flight of Brazilian/French aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont (1873-1932) who designed, built and flew the No. 14-Bis aircraft. Santos-Dumont is seen here jousting with the American aviator Wilbur Wight (1867-1912) who with his brother Orville had designed, built and successfully flown the Flyer in 1903. Both are wearing 'flying wings' designed to replicate the planes they designed and flew.
