Note on map "This detailed manuscript map, now known as the Haile Selassie Map of Ethiopia, was given by His Royal Highness, Ras Tafari - then prince regent, later the Emperor Haile Selassie - to biologist and geographer Homer Shantz while the American was visiting Ethiopia in 1924 as part of a study on agricultural regions of Africa. Drawn and annotated in Amharic by the court geographer Kh. B. Papzian in 1923...". On top of the map is the Amharic motto of the country's rulers, "The Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah." A numbered key in the lower right describes the map and various locations found within. Framed to museum quality standards in a 1" rounded black molding.
