Works Portland, Me.

According to Maine Historical Society the engine was built in Boston, however, the Portland Co. engine works were in Portland, Maine. This is an early design of an engine without a cab for the engineer. According to the MHS she was rebuilt in 1869 and used for a switching engine, later sold for scrap. These lithographic broadsides were produced to show off the steam engines that the companies were building, advertising their company to prospective customers. There would be no reason to create a lithograph after rebuilding the engine, only after it was manufactured.
