  • DESCRIPTION: Detailed sea chart the southern part of southern Sumatra, western Java and neighboring islands. Jakarta, named “Batavia formerly Iacatra” is identified. A large inset chart shows a close up of the Straits of Sunda, including the famous volcanic island of Cracatoa. Includes numerous soundings and several profile views of prominent land masses.<br><br>This chart appeared in Laurie & Whittle’s “The East India Pilot, or Oriental Navigator”. <br><br>

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: Manuscript soundings and notes written in the Java and China Sea's.

  • CONDITION: Fair condition only. Small areas of loss of the lower right neatline and creases, splits and small losses along centerfold. Occasional tear along sheet edge. This was used as a "working" sea chart.
