  • DESCRIPTION: T. Sinclair's Lith. Phila. Music Sheet cover. The Battle of New Orleans took place on April 24-25th 1862. A Union naval squadron of 43 ships under command of Admiral David G. Farragut managed to run between the confederate forts Jackson and St. Philip. In this dramatic image, the Union ships are shown running between the two forts, dodging fire rafts, confederate war ships and withering fire from the forts. The loss of New Orleans was a crippling blow to the south.
