  • DESCRIPTION: Juan Fernandez Island, aka Robinson Crusoe Island is located off the coast of Chile. The view on top is an image of its rugged profile as seen from the sea. It is based on Admiral George Anson's voyage in 1740. <br><br> The cartographer Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was one of the most important and proficient French cartographers of the eighteenth century. He was appointed the first Ingenieur Hydrographe de la Marine, and also the Official Hydrographer to the French King.
