The original story of Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley in 1823. In 1934, Lynd Ward created the first fully illustrated version of the classic story.

This particular wood engraving is part of the signed edition, printed on tissue, which was not used for the book publication. The wood engravings for the book were all unsigned.

In this scene, The Monster exacts revenge on his creator for abandoning him by strangling his little brother, William, to death. The action places even greater guilt upon Victor Frankenstein's shoulders as the story progresses.

Signed in pencil.
