  • DESCRIPTION: Shows the Russian gains since July 12th, 1943. The cartographer of this map is Robert M. Chapin (fl. 1937-1970). Chapin was chief cartographer at Time Magazine. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1933 with a degree in architecture. Finding little demand for his training during the Depression, he took a job at Newsweek in the photography department. He had a keen interest in cartography and in 1937 took a position with Time Magazine making maps for them. He was extremely prolific, producing four, five and six maps per week to keep up with breaking news during the Second World War.
