Despite being labeled as an antelope, the animal depicted is actually a pronghorn. The common misconception is mostly due to a case of mistaken identity. Pronghorn reminded early settlers of the antelope found in Africa and Eurasia, but they are completely unrelated. The species is unique to North America and can be found in the western areas of the U.S. and Canada. 18th-19th Century Subjects , Sports & Games , Shooting, Birds/Game
