DESCRIPTION: A scarce map of the area between the Pamunkey and James Rivers, showing the Vicinity of Richmond. during the Civil War. The cartographer of this map was Major General Jeremy Francis Gilmer who was the Chief Engineer for the Confederate States of America. He provided many detailed maps that were used by the Confederate Army. It is a good example of the painstaking detail his surveyors gathered. Numerous fortifications are shown along with locations of residents, towns and railroads
